The Italy community is the fourth largest in Australia, with over 900,000 Australians identifying themselves as having Italian ancestry in the 2011 Census.

Italians began migrating to Australia since the late 19th century, however there was a surge post World War Two. They Sydney suburb of Leichhardt and the regional centre of Griffith are two parts of the NSW with a prominent Italian population.

The Italian community has many established community groups and support services, including Italian education, aged care, media outlets and community support groups.
