The Indian community is one of the fastest growing communities in NSW, with one of the factors for this being a strong Indian International Student community.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, in 2011-12, Indians became the largest source of permanent migration to Australia forming 15.7% of the total migration program. Australia’s Indian-born population also recorded the fastest growth in the country in 2008-2009, increasing by 44,012 (17%). NSW is the second largest state for the Indian population, following Victoria.

The Indian community in NSW is very vibrant, with many community groups and local media outlets. Shaoquett works closely with the Indian community on important issues such as trade, student safety and migration.
