Shaoquett is passionate about working with different ethnic communities’ right across NSW, to ensure that they get the recognition they deserve for the positive contribution they make to our society.
In addition to establishing the Multicultural and Indigenous Media Awards in 2012 and the National Indigenous Human Rights Awards in 2014, Shaoquett is also a Founding Member and Senior Vice-President of The Australian Chinese Association, an Honorary Member of the Arab Business Network, and a Member of the Board of the Law and Justice Foundation of NSW. He is also the State Parliamentary Patron of the Pakistani Australia Business Council and is Convener of Arabic Friends of Labor. He has been a member of the Labor Party since 1982.
Shaoquett has also hosted numerous fundraising events for the relief efforts of the Victorian Bushfire Appeal, the Queensland Floods the Pakistani Floods, the East African Famine Appeal, the Gaza, Children Cloth Appeal, Chinese earthquake, Pakistani flood appeal, the News South Wales Bushfire Appeal, the Japanese Earthquake and Nuclear Disaster amongst many others. Shaoquett has also been working extensively with Wheelchairs for Kids that provides wheelchairs for children who are in need of help.
